b4Help is my fractional CTO practice. I give small and mid-sized businesses senior technology leadership part time, and I implement the AI I recommend.
I’ve worked in IT and security for more than 25 years. I work with firms that hold information they can’t hand to a third party, such as law firms and accounting practices, and for them I deploy private AI that runs on their own hardware so client files stay on their network.
What I do
- Technology leadership: a roadmap, infrastructure and vendor decisions, and oversight of the developers and providers you pay today.
- AI strategy and implementation: where AI saves your firm money, with private, on-premise deployment where the data is sensitive.
- Assessments: an AI Readiness Assessment or a full Technology and AI Assessment, each ending in a written, prioritized plan.
- Compliance-aware planning: I have worked on PCI, HIPAA and PII compliance requirements, so security and data handling sit in the plan from the first conversation.

On-site across Massachusetts, and remote for businesses anywhere in the United States.
What I’ve built
- A document AI system that runs offline from a USB drive, answers questions about your files with citations to the source, and makes no network requests
- PortCRM, a portable CRM that keeps client data encrypted on your own devices
- A local, multi-model AI inference stack, and a virtualization environment I have run since around 2012
